The Material
We use a wide variety of wool and silk sourced from different parts in the world ―majorly India― to produce our carpets. In addition to wool and silk, we also use hemp, cotton, and linen mixed yarns to give presence and rare texture to the rugs.
It is fascinating for us to see how yarns react differently to each of the dying methods and to the
sunlight when mixed together, giving each carpet an inconsistent flow of colors which makes each piece one-of-a-kind.
YURA WOOL - The wool used to make the rugs is of Indian origin which is natural in strength. Our dyeing technique for wool gives a particular element to the carpets, as providing an incredible depth to the color without making the wool fat. The yarn is further enhanced in the washing process.
YURA ORGANIC SILK - Pure silk directly made from the cocoon and re-spun completely by hand, where no machine processes are involved. Further, one of its kind dyeing and washing processes results in silk which exudes elegance and sophistication by its shine and opulence.
SARI SILK - This material is made from old silk saris and then upcycled into a yarn which can be used as a beautiful and rare silk to knot carpets. The yarn is then re-dyed to get the required color intensity and the washing stage crafts a natural reaction to the multiple dyeing processes applied over the original sari silk color, getting an unexpected magical flow of colors on the rug.
PURE SILK - Extracted directly from a worm in the cocoon. Once carded its extremely fine with a beautiful and natural shine.
OTHERS - Linen, hemp and cotton are mixed with Ashoka’s Yarn to provide rare textures to our carpets.
We believe in being closer to mother nature, and avoid using any artificial material, such as bamboo silk or viscose.
